Reimagining Community Safety Team came together in June 2022 with the desire to create change in Tkaronto. We are a group of passionate individuals bringing together our skills and experiences to take the next steps in creating safer communities. We are trying to both dismantle the system of policing in its current state while also rebuilding healthy community support systems and practical responses to violence in our communities. </p> <p>We recognize that police often enforce policies and protect properties regardless of whether their action will necessitate a violation of human rights and/or Treaties.<br /> We want to inspire community members to get creative in building alternatives to policing, and amplifying effective community resources that already exist in order to mitigate harm and violence in the first place. </p> <p>Assata Shakur said "Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them."
